
ANNA - Agnes Menees Pitts, 83, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2007, at her home in Anna.
She was born Feb. 16, 1924, in Lillyville, the daughter of Edmond Carl and Minnie Elizabeth (Helmink) Menees.
She married Thomas "Pete" Pitts on Feb. 4, 1948, in Cobden. "Pete" preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1987.
Agnes was a 1942 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
She was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna.
She was involved in the Ladies Sodality, served as trustee and on the church council and helped to produce a number of hand sewn quilts that were raffled at the fall festival.
She was employed at the Goodyear tire store in Anna during and after World War II and then worked as a secretary in the guidance office at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in the 1960s.
She is survived by three daughters, Alice Ann Vedder and husband, Hellmuth, of Austin, Texas, Mary Elizabeth Larson of Bloomington and Carolyn Sue Pitts and husband, Michael Pace M.D., of Bloomington; five grandchildren, Julie (Catharine) Clarenbach, Angela Vedder, Matthew Larson and wife, Ann, and Joshua and Nathan Larson; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Thomas "Pete" Pitts.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Anna, with Monsignor Dennis Schaefer officiating.
Burial will be in Anna City Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with rosary service at 6:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
