Fred L. Chamness, 74, of Davenport, Fla., formerly of Anna, died at 10:56 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, surrounded by family at Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Haines City, Fla.
He was born Aug. 21, 1936, to Frank and Eva (Kinder) Chamness.
He married Norma J. Dwinell on May 21, 1957, in Anna.
She preceded him in death Nov. 7, 2008.
He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1954.
He attended Southeast Missouri State University and graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a bachelor's degree in history and a minor in math.
He completed his masters degree in political science at Northern Arizona University in 1968.
Fred was a teacher, football and track coach the majority of his life where he influenced the lives of students, athletes and peers.
He is survived by two sons, Fred M. (Terresa) Chamness of Kissimmee, Fla., and Tony (Meredith Lasley) Chamness of Marion; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Robin Dillon, Alice and David Ury, and Cathy Stearns, all of Jonesboro; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Robert "Bob" and Frank "Doc" Chamness, both of Anna; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; Norma his wife of 51 years; one brother, Larry Chamness; one granddaughter, Nikki N. Bowen; two nephews, Mark Chamness and Danny Dwinell, and two sisters-in-law, Patricia Chamness and Carole Dwinell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, in Crain Funeral Home, with Bill Littrell officiating.
Interment will be in Casper Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.
Memorials can be made to Fred L. Chamness Athletic Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
