Mrs. Mary Lorene Smith, 57 of Murphysboro, died Saturday afternoon, Nov 28, 1998, at her home following a long illness.
She was born on July 20, 1941 in Buncombe, the daughter of George and Lorene Thornton Barringer.
On June 27, 1970 she married Stephen W. Smith.
Mrs. Smith worked at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale for 29 years, the last 13 years as a secretary in the geology department.
She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church at Buncombe.
Survivors include her husband, Steven W. Smith of Murphysboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Eric Boerngen of Urbana; her mother Lorene Barringer of Buncombe; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Patsie and William Gerald Griffith of Buncombe and Anna Lee Durbin of Anna; and other relatives.
Funeral services for Mary Lorene Smith will be Thursday, today, at 1 p.m. in Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel at Murphysboro, with the Rev. Andy Gillespie officiating.
Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
