Cynthia “Cindy” Lynn Johnson, 53, of Murphysboro, and formerly of Anna, died at 6:50 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011, at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.
Her body has been cremated. Memorial services for Ms. Johnson will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at the Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Jim Frye officiating. Memorials can be made to the family.

She was born on April 10, 1958, the daughter of Paul Johnson and Ann Claxton Smoot, in Hammond, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
While attending SIUC, she worked for the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
Later, she worked for Penn Aluminum in Murphysboro, Blue Cross in Marion and as an inventory associate for W.I.S. International.
During the 1970s, she was a huge supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment and was a trustee on the Board of the First Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro.
She is survived by one sister, Paula Baril of Murphysboro; one brother, Barry (LaDonna) Smoot of Marion; three nephews, Jeremy (Dee) Rogers of Los Angeles, Calif., Robert Baril of Carterville and Reese Smoot of Marion; two nieces, Taylor Baril of Los Angeles and Emily Smoot of Marion; and one great-nephew, Lenny Rogers of Los Angeles; friends and her church family.
