The Anna-Jonesboro High School Football Field saw a lot of action in the fifties and sixties. The football field doubled as a practice baseball field in the early fifties. The field in back of Union Hall was a cow pasture in the early fifties. Baseball games and track meets were held at the Anna Fair Grounds. There was a sawdust pit to the east of the football field with a tackling dummy that was used a lot. The football field saw a lot of action from the neighborhood children who used the field as their own private play ground. Children from all over town would come to the football field and play football, softball and tag. The woods on both sides of the football field made a great playground for tag, swinging on grapevines and just running through the woods. Their was a path through the woods that led to the Ravine Theater. The theater was a neat place to play, especially the stage area at the bottom. |
